INSTRUCTIONS AFTER FOOT SURGERY

  1. Keep the operated area CLEAN AND DRY, DO NOT remove the bandages or inspect the wound. Follow doctor's instructions as to the amount of time you can be on your feet.

  2. WHEN YOU ARE SITTING DOWN, DO NOT allow your feet to dangle for too long. ELEVATE your feet as much as possible while at rest for the first week after surgery.

  3. A slight amount of bleeding is normal. If there is active bleeding, however, and it persists, call the office at 805.496.2383 as soon as possible.

  4. An ice bag may be used to help control any discomfort or bleeding. Please place the ice bag around the ankle and only use it for 20 MINUTES ON and 20 MINUTES OFF. NEVER place the ice bag over the surgical site.

  5. For further pain control, take the medications as prescribed or dispensed by the doctor. If the medication does not adequately control the pain, please call the office.

  6. We recommend patients to loosen the bed covers at the foot of the bed or to fold the covers back in order to avoid pressure on the operated area.

  7. Please use the surgical shoe or boot as instructed.

  8. Your first scheduled post-op visit is on _____________________.

  9. IMPORTANT: In case of emergency and you cannot get hold of our office, you can call Dr. Hai-En Peng at 818.481.4706 for any questions or concerns.
